Video Snippets of Morden and the St. Leon Wind Farm

I took my little flying device along on my last trip to Manitoba, and flew it a few times with family in Morden. It was very windy! (Check out the pitch and roll angles, shown on the bottom of the video at the 10 second mark, to see what was needed to hold position in the wind.)
Admittedly, it may only be of interest to people who know Morden. As I was driving home and passing through the St. Leon wind farm, which is always one of the prettiest parts of the drive, in my opinion, I realized I could take some aerial video there too. So this video ends with some “footage” from the wind farm. Sadly, just as I got up to maximum height at the second location which has some gorgeous views, I realized I the drone had 6% of its power left and I immediately instructed it to return to me as quickly as inhumanly possible. It landed with 1% battery. Apparently I should pay attention to that before I take off.

TOTW – Fireworks

The Theme of the Week is fireworks. In desperation I took a photo of fireworks on sale at Canadian Tire. Didn’t work well. I also tried, on several occasions, to capture nature’s fireworks, during some recent thunderstorms. My timing wasn’t good, but a few failed photos follow. Then I got creative, thanks to Eileen’s brilliant thinking, and adde a tiny space in the middle of the word, showing that fire does indeed work.

TOTW: Letters

This officially gets me caught up to the present, so going forward, there should simply be a new Theme of the Week photo sometime each Saturday or shortly after.

Letters (plus a photo I didn’t use)

TOTW: Broken

It’s a bit of a blog blitz as I try to get caught up with my postings here. My featured photo for “Broken” is the broken lines photo below. The second photo shows a more traditional understanding of broken, which I photographed by our house the week before.

Celebrating Solar

Late last Fall our church had solar panels installed on the roof. The sun’s power is short-lived each day in Winter, but come Spring and Summer, we send back to the grid way more power than we use. I had taken a few short blurry photos and little video in the cold early Winter, which got used for all kinds of news coverage, but now I figured we might enjoy something a little less frigid. So here’s a happy, bouncy video that celebrates our solar panels, and a few views of the neighbourhood 130 meters above the church.

If the above video fails to play, you can also watch it on youtube.

TOTW: Evening

Still a few weeks behind on my Theme of the Week. This evening shot from the space where I frequently love to spend my evening.

TOTW: Edited

Ironically, I have edited this week’s photo for the theme of edited. My choice photo which I shared with Leila might not be appropriate for all audiences, so I’ve added some other candidates for the theme. There’s nothing secret about the one I’m not posting, it just doesn’t feel as fully public. Ooo, mystery!

TOTW: Silly Faces

Theme of the Week (yes, I’m still catching up to the present) was Silly Faces.

The chosen photo below is an art project Simon created in High School. I liked that it is a silly clock face made up of silly cow faces.

The bonus photo is of two guys who met only about a minute before I took this picture. Jeff, on the right, grabbed Eileen’s dad’s glasses and put them on, and swapped his own hat onto Harvey’s head, and this is the pose they created for me, unprompted!

TOTW: Five Things (Introducing a new rhythm)

You might remember way back in the day, one month when I posted a photograph every day based on a word from a calendar. That was fun, but every day quickly got rather intense. But there was something lovely about the discipline of regularly posting a photo based on some suggested word or theme.

Now, thanks to a lovely invitation from my friend Leila, I’m going to join her rhythm of focusing on one word/phrase each week, and posting a photo(s).
So each week has a theme (TOTW = theme of the week), and at the end of the week Leila and I each exchange one photo related to that theme. I like the discipline of having to choose just one to send to her.

But here on my photo blog, I make my own rules, so I might post one, or maybe a few more that I almost choose for Leila, or a whole set, simply because I got inspired by some idea. Or I might change it. What chaos!! And as Leila and I have discussed, some weeks might feature a photo of desperation, just so it gets done, and other weeks might be nicer. I can’t even guarantee they’ll all be in focus. These are the risks you take by looking here. You’ve been warned!

So I started this a few weeks ago, which means I’ll do a little catch up in the next few days to get up to the present. The theme for my first week was “Five things”.
