Smokes

Alberta forest fires send smoke long distances. This picture is from Diefenbaker Park in Saskatoon.

Sourdough Bread Lessons

Joel Kroeker, a breadmaker at The Night Oven bakery, offered to teach men at Wildwood Mennonite Church how to make classic sourdough bread!

Three Friends on the Prairie

Somewhere on the road between Saskatoon and Calgary I encountered these 3 lovely old granaries. I decided they needed lots of sky to highlight the vast space that surrounds them.

Roosting

I find this image striking. By pure luck, the colours, the contrast, the lighting, the textures in the black jacket all seem perfect, better than I could have planned.

A Waxwing Convention

During the winter these Bohemian Waxwings (note the rufous undertail) gather in large flocks. In Saskatoon, they are often feasting on the berries of Mountain Ash trees in grand hordes. When this smaller group gathered in my back alley I went to explore, and discovered they weren’t too worried about my presence, even when I stepped right into the tree only a meter from them.

Fallen Leaves

I saw this lovely pile of dying leaves after a heavy dew one morning in my back yard. It’s been a favourite of mine for a long time now.

Sunshine vs Cold

Warm lunchtime sunshine on a cold day is glorious. I woke up to -30 C this morning, but I’m feeling the warmth now.

Format Aside

You are looking at bits and pieces of anything I choose to photograph. Some might be nice photos, some may just be snapshots that capture a little piece of my day, and some might seem pointless. The most recent ones are at the top. For a fuller explanation of what this site is about, please read What is This? available from the menu.

A bird in the hand…

While visiting Beaver Creek we found a flock of Chickadees so used to eating from human hands that all it took was an outstretched hand to entice the hungry creatures to come and explore.
